] I won't argue on the Americanization of the movie, but will only venture that in Mansfield Park, Lady Bertram was more concerned about her Pug than her children. I think that Emma Thompson probably read all the books to get a feel for the time, and some of the other books' details spilled over into S&S.
True. But a Pug is not a Lab. I doubt that Mr Bingley would have had his Dane on his sofa.
Lizzy played with the dog in the film. But who would take care of it? And where would it sleep? Probably not on his master's pillow like some dogs do today.
