That ubiquitous Mrs. Radcliffe

Thought you might possibly find this amusing. I picked up my copy of "The Cavalry Maiden" a memoir by Nadezhda Durova (1783-1866) about her stint in the Russian cavalry during the Napoleonic era and while skimming the translator's intro (OK, I was actually supposed to be tidying my study), I read under "Durova's Literary Antecedents":
Her fiction shows that she had absorbed the work of Mrs. Radcliffe and other Gothic novelists in translation.
Mrs. R. is everywhere!
