Morning visits took place with relation to morning activites such as, horse riding/church going etc. Sometimes shoots/hunts and then a meal.
Remember breakfast was very elaborate and important, so was tea.
Even in India, people drop in on a social call to have tea in the evening. Tea would be somewhat like brunch.
Similarities today include peopledropping in after dinner for drinks, dessert and so on.
About ladies/people still asleep, this is probable that is why the seperate rooms for receiving guests at all times.
example: Chapter 3, Bingley visits Mr Bennet for ten minutes in the library. He hopes to get a glimpse of the daughters but does not...........
