To L and T index ] ] Anyone know what quarter sessions at Taunton are and what is a London correspondent are?

Sue's right about the quarter-sessions. Aunt L-P had to wait for the Assize courts at Taunton because, as the County Town of Somerset, it was the centre of law and government in the county. She couldn't be tried by the local magistrate because the crime she was accused of was theft of articles over 1/- in value, and as such, the penalty could be the death sentence.

I have a feeling your "london correspondent" has a more specific meaning.........Is it from Jane's letters?
