Do you mean to suggest that couples did not kiss at all? Please excuse me if I misunderstood. However, just in case I understood, let me assure you that modern times did not invent the kiss. It's been around for quite some time now, and enthusiastically taken advantage of. And as far as being unclean, they were just beginning to understand "germs" then. As far as sex was concerned, they were much more open about those things than we are today. We are not speaking of Victorian times, remember. And, incidentally, the Victorians were not all that prudish either.
