Those things on the mantlepiece do look as if they are made of laquer or tortoiseshell with bamboo handles, don't they? I think you are right...they are some kind of fan or hand-held firescreen. There is a very standard-looking firescreen at the left of the fire...heavy base, long pole and a movable screen on top (that is about the same shape as the mantlepiece fans, but larger). Is this what you mean by Match-box holders?
Oh yes, I do hope Mr Bingley isn't deceased because he was an Aylesbury.....
