In response to Bastards inheriting, written by Linden on April 10, 1998 at 21:12:49

To L and T index]In order to inherit, an illegitimate child had to be specifically named in a will. This applied even when there was no doubt about the child's parentage.

] My family folklore indicates that this happened to my grandfather's inheritance from his mother. She had an affair (with Lily Langtree's horse trainer, the family's sole claim to fame) and produced grandfather. He didn't inherit either from his father or even from his mother, since neither of them made a will in his favour.

Thanks, Linden, for the real life example.
