TJ was born illegitimate. As that he would stand to inherit only if there are no rightful heirs at birth. However Allworthy has the right to disinherit and give TJ his estate even if Blifel was alive. The estate would have been entailed to specifics of previous owners and illegitimate heirs were never allowed a proper inheritance...can you imagine if all the illegitimate children of those noblemen were allowed to inherit after proof of relations? But Blifel knew that if Allworthy found out about TJ's true birthright he would at least divide his estate to be shared by nephews and that was totally unacceptable to the greedy younger half-brother. As to who is the bastard in the story, well...
