To L and T index ] ] I just read your response to Jenna, and I thought it rather rude. If we are going to talk about things Austen your response could be compared to Emma's treatment of Miss. Bates at the picnic.
] When someone comes to this page for help and you don't know the answer to their question you should keep your comments to yourself. Remember, treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Michelle,
I get the feeling that you may be new, so I thought I would explain the reason for Caroline's post. First of all, Caroline is the administrator of this board, which means that she volunteers her time to tend it. It is her job to read all the posts and to see to it that everything here runs smoothly. She and most of the other posters here have a VERY full life outside of Pemberley, including jobs and children to tend to, so hanging around here is a pleasure not a duty.

Therefore, the fact that YOU demand of her to keep her comments to herself isn't very comme il faut. One of her duties is to see to it that the people here don't get used as a free research service for writers that are going to pop in with a question, get the answer, and then leave, until they have another question. We used to have alot of trouble with this before the name of the board was changed.

She is protecting the interest of the regular posters and making sure they don't get taken advantage of. And this is the way I want to be treated. I personally don't have alot of knowledge about The Regency but I do try to share interesting tidbits with the other posters.

I don't think that Jenna was treated rudely. I think that Caroline gave her a direct answer to let her know the purpose of this board. I don't know Jenna's motives, so I can't be sure if she was rude or not. If she planning to get her information for her novel and then scram, the she was the one who was rude. However, if she is planning to become a member of the community here, then she was not rude.

I don't there can be any comparison between this situation and the situation between Emma and Miss Bates. Miss Bates didn't want Emma do do reseach for her, for free, and then vamoose.

Jenna, if you read this post, I hope that you will stay and participate on the board. We have many intersting and smart people here, not exepting JennieC and Patricia. ;-)
