I was much offended by the odd set of dogs the Middletons had in ET:s S&S, because "by all that I have read" they just didn't keep such things. They would not have such races they had, nor would they have them in their carriage etc. Nobody would, anyway. You don't take half a dozen big, dirty, smelling dogs inside your car either, you put them in the back.
What I want to know is, what kind of dogs would they have, who took care of them etc. In P&P2 Bingley has a Great Dane and some hunting dogs, and Darcy a Greyhound. But you only see them in Netherfield and Pemberley. Would they leave the dogs behind when they went to town? What would become of them? Would they bring their own dogs when they went shooting to others' places? What about small dogs? Did they have small dogs they would carry?
I believe the different dog races would be much more used for the purpose they were intended for. They would not have Border Collies or Bloodhounds for pets, would they?
And how on earth did they get rid of the hair without a hoover? ;-)
