Jessamyn's reply really covers it, but if you want even more on this topic, let me recommend that you read the newly-reprinted The Mirror of Graces by "A Lady of Distinction," written in 1811. It's a fantastic piece that gives readers a glimpse into the manners and modes of Regency society, including dress, carriage, dancing, talking and more. I don't know if BookServe has it, but I'd look there first.
