Wedding rings?

Posted by ElaineL on April 02, 1998 at 13:48:39:

To L and T indexOkay, another question about the truely trivial:

I'm assuming the English gentleman gave his wife a wedding ring at the ceremony. I'm also assuming the wife did NOT give one to her husband given it was a custom born out of the man showing he would share his money with his wife.

But what kind of ring was it? I haven't seen any references to this in the fashion books. Was it a plain gold band? Did it have jewels? If so which ones? Diamonds did not seem to be as popular except in tiaras as rubies, emeralds, etc.

I'm also assuming no ring was exchanged in "engagement"

Has anyone come across info on this?

Thanks, ElaineL
