Sorry if this question has been answered often before. I have checked the archives, and it does not seem to be in any of the BB's here.

In P&P, Mr. Bingley has the enormous sum of "5000 a year", but Mr. Darcy has the double. Appearantly this sum was more than sufficient for living comfortably, with a town-house as well as a country-seat, multiple servants, coaches, etc. etc (mrs Bennet "Oh, what jewels, what carriages you will have"). BUT, how much would it equal in todays money ? 1 millon ? 10 millions ? More ? Less ?
