There is another book by the same author (Susan Watkins) called "Jane Austen: In Style" but I don't think it is the same book.
Actually, I have "Jane Austen: In Style", and it says that it was previously published as "Jane Austen's Town and Country Style". I recommend getting it, whatever it's called- it's really informative.
But I think Clare's reasoning is excellent- I doubt whether they would have wanted to wear gloves to dinner if they were going to use their hands!
