gloves, seating, proceeding, etc

I am at a loss once again for those little details that are so helpful when writing a fanfic story. Unfortunately, I returned one book w/some dining details to the university library and won't be able to get it again for awhile. If you could recommend one book to purchase that has lots of details in it, what would it be?
I don't want to take undue advantage of you, however, if you feel like helping w/ any details, here's what I'm currently looking for:
Did women wear gloves to dinner in their own home when guests were present? How about when w/just family?
Did the host sit at the head of the table w/hostess at opposite end? THen highest guest was on right, second guest on left of host?
I have an order of who proceeds whom to dinner, but does this guest escort the hostess if he's not married? Or the second highest person? Or does he self-select?
Well, these are the kinds of details I'm looking for in a resource to own if there is such an animal.
