In response to Christmas, written by Linden on March 19, 1998 at 21:46:23
] ] I am curious about why there is so little mention of Christmas in JA's books.
] "Persuasion" has a good description of a noisy old-fashioned Christmas at the Musgroves.
] A lot of the modern Christmas hype is later, pushed by such strange bedfellows as Charles Dickens and Coca-Cola.
Ha-ha! You made me laugh. Really! I love that social commentary. It is hitting it right on the head but there was more to it than Coca-cola. Also "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by what's his name - it escapes me now. Point is, just like Halloween, the grand celebration of Christmas, as much as I love it, was greatly expanded by very commercial interests.
