Oh, Amy, I agree! The clothing was beautiful and relatively unrestricted, hairstyles were more becoming, and the architecture and furniture styles of the time, IMHO, were unsurpassed.
On a personal note, as a lover of history for as long as I can remember, my first fascination was the Little House book collection. I wanted to be a pioneer girl and live in a log house until adolescence. Then my fancy turned to GWTW and hoop skirted belles. I think my more recent love of the Regency is (hopefully) evidence of improved taste :-D
