To L and T indexI can't quote a source on this, but I thought that a gentleman was never supposed to take a woman's hand to kiss it, he can only do it when she offers it--it's her move.

I can confirm your thoughts on this. I have a book called Our Deportment that states what you describe above. The book is from the 1880's but it was probably the same in during the Regency.
