In response to question about Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet characters, written by Steve Farina on March 16, 1998 at 18:10:03
] My question is in regard to the fact that many authors of this period patterned their characters after actual, historical individuals.
They did? Can you give us some examples?
Are the antagonists, then lovers, Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet fictional creations of a historical couple of whom Jane Austen knew or was aware?
We are reading a biography of Jane Austen in the Library right now, Steve, so I really don't want to give too much away here, as it might spoil things .However, I must tell you that most experts on Jane Austen agree that her characters were not based directly real persons.
