Yes, I really like the way the movie Persuasion used grooming details to indicate character. The gentlemen didn't shave often or dress up while in the country - except for that dandy Mr. Elliot. What a show-off!
And the lighting gave a lovely impression of how dim and shadowy evening parties by candlelight would be.
It also let me see why walks were such a big deal. Those weren't roads, they were cart tracks. Ladies really had to hike to get a little socializing in.
