I read somewhere that in the beginnings of the XIX c. there was an actual group called "The Bluestockings" or something similar that grouped ladies with intellectual pursuits and that is the origin of the word. Does anybody have more information about it? (especially why it was called the bluestockings?)
PS: A question about posting etiquette in this board. I'm always thankful for all the answers I receive to my posts but I don't know if I'm suppose to acknowledge it everytime; I mean, I don't want to use up memory space or whatever, apart from becoming a bore. On the other hand, it goes against so many years of education, not saying "thank you" every time a person does something for you. So, what should I do?
