My sympathies! My husband, a strapping, healthy marathon runner, suffers about once a year from gout. He believes, and some medical evidence supports, that gout can be caused by weight loss. Are you by any chance dieting?

Theory is that dieting flushes toxins which are stored in fat cells into the body's waste disposal system. When he tries to drop ten pounds before a big run, here comes the gout. Old wives' cure: eat lots of dark red cherries. Canned is ok, fresh is better. Don't ask me, but this does seem to help prevent and soothe gout, a modern disease!
