] Thank you for this fascinating information! Is there a particular book that has information on this, or just primary sources you have found? : )

I havn't got a book on bathing to recommend, I'm afraid. For fascinating recipes, you might like to try Nicholas Culpeper's Herbal, or John Gerard's Herbal (ask in your library) There's also the Jane Austen Household Book, by Peggy Hickman (David and Charles) 1977. I am putting together a bibliography for us right now.I do tend to rely more on the primary sources, as I find you can get more out of them, and most of the books I am listing have lots of contemporary writngs, illustrations and bibliographies themselves. Can you be patient, please? I'm off on vacation next week, and away from the computer-unnerving thought! (How will I cope?);-)
