To L and T index ] It was the alcoholism along with red meat that made the gout so prevelent during the eighteenth & early nineteenth century.

Ouch! Some of us have gout in this century. My toe has been hurting for a month and I rarely eat red meat (must be all the chocolate!). My dad had to become a vegetarian to get his gout to go away so it looks like I'll have to take Shelley's advice and do like-wise.
