So if people are just drinking beer (and stronger stuff) the way we're told we should drink water today, then there MUST have been alcoholics everywhere!I don't have any specific source for this, but I have heard that the beer that they drank then was of a very low alcohol content and some, called 'small beer' was diluted. It was a common practice to dilute wine also, but I think that was because they were trying to 'stretch' it. The daily wine was diluted but on special occasions it was drunk full strength.
