In response to Safer alternative to water?, written by Carolyn B on February 26, 1998 at 19:55:49
] Is it true that it's still very hard to get a glass of water in England? I remember reading a travel article back in the late 1980s written by an American complaining about the difficulty of getting a glass of water in restaurants, pubs, etc.
You don't get one automatically except at really classy restaurants. But if you ask for one, there's not usually a problem. In pubs you may be charged for it- I belive it is a publican's right to charge for whatever beverage he provides, even tapwater.( That comes from working as a barmaid in Cheltenham to supplement a student grant!)
