Information on funeral rituals needed...

Does anyone know what the funeral ritual was like back
then? The wake I assume was at home but was there
also a condolences book to sign? And if there were, would they just sign their names or comment as well?

But what is the person was murdered, would the rituals
change concerning the wake?
