Muslin /cotton/silk/shawls

The most famous Muslin in the world was the Dacca Muslin, started by the Mughal Emperor's of India.

Fine hand made cotton were called MUL-MUL's but were superceded by Manchester factory print cotton when the British ruled India. The intent was to market factory made goods ......

Silk came from China,Siam(now Thailand), and India. The areas famous in India were plenty but here are a few:

Benaras, Kanjeevaram and Murshidabad.

Shawls, primarily from the area of Kashmir. Two types Pashmina and Shahtush. From the fine wool of a goat/sheep.
These were extensively embroidered and very expensive, they began to appear in Europe during the Portuguese adventures of B Diaz and others. They continued to be important and are very much a part of the film. This gave birth to the "shawl dress".
