If you observe table settings you may notice the imporatnce of tea and Large chunks of meat.

The large chunks of meat were largely preserved by the cold weather and pepper(&other spices). Spices have qualities that preserve meat(the same principal used in ancient Egypt to preserve the mummies).

Tea, came from China and the hilly areas of Darjeeling(India) and Ceylon(now Sri Lanka).
