] Marie Collette,

] The Peninsular Wars are not my strong point, however, here's what a quick check brought up. Technically, the actions at Rolica and Vimeiro, along with the skirmish at Obidos (the day before Rolica) were prior to the "retreat" which was ordered about Dec. 24, 1808.

] The British army left Sahagum on Dec. 25 in two columns, both headed for Astorga. One under Gen. Baird headed west. The other (Generals Hope, Fraser and Paget) went SW to Casta Gonzalo where an small engagement occured (Dec 28-29). After meeting at Astorga the Army split again. The Light Brigade headed for Vigo (arriving Jan. 12). The main body went to Corruna. On the way battles were fought at Villafranca (Jan. 1-2)and Lugo Jan. 6-7), before arriving at Corunna (Jan. 11), and the battle on the 16th. [Taken from Christopher Hibbert's Corunna (Pan Books)]

] I find the most interesting part of the retreat, is less the major battles, as the almost continual rear-guard action, and the struggle to keep the Army from completely disintigrating under immense hardships. There are several accounts by participants which can provide a wealth of detail.

] Sounds like an interesting project,

if there is any info other than Michigan history or Canadian history
books that might have info on The Surrender of Fort Detroit.I have dec-
ided to have a character in the second part of my fan fic buy a commission
in a Regulars regiment that will be going to Canada, and so I need something
