] JA has a lot of heroes and heroines with faults. This sounds like a lit. crit. question, but how does she make us like them anyway?
No problem with discussing lit.crit., here, or anywhere in Pemberley.
How about Isabella Thorpe? Catherine is supposed to be ditzy (she isn't, she's just naive and with an over-active imagination.) but Isabella really is the twit that shows that Miss Morland isn't so bad after all....Anne Elliot...washed out, washed up....but Mary Musgrove is a real headcase, and Louisa Musgrove a stubborn teenager.
