I've never heard of comparing the fashion of the 1850s and the 1950s. As soon as you mentioned this, it was so obvious. I was in the theater (for Titantic) the other night and a preview for the re-release of that Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta movie (can't remember the name but I watched it a million times as a teenager and listened to the 8 track over and over again) and I could not take my eyes off those big skirts! Of course I had to tell my husband this little bit of information only I omitted the fact that I had only just heard of it!
