In response to Jane Austen as an Augustan, written by Inko on February 05, 1998 at 22:22:02
That's the thing -- Jane Austen can be described as "post-Augustan" or "post-18th century", and those terms are certainly more helpful than classifying her with her chronological contemporaries the romantics would be, but it would be difficult to describe her simply and tout court as "18th-century" or "Augustan" (without further qualification...)
