How much of what we consider "traditional mourning" is Victorian?

To L and T indexDid early 19th C. English folk also go into the various stages of mourning to the extent their descendants did? I thought a lot of the mourning customs were really popularized by Victoria R going into extended mourning for Albert. Hmmmm.....
