To L and T indexTwo books which should be fairly easy to find are

Lawrence Stone: The Family, Sex and Marriage in England 1500-1800
and
Asa Briggs: A Social History of England

- both have been reprinted many times, so I won't give publication info. One thing I suggest you think about is the developing industrial revolution and the effect it was already having in certain parts of England - even if you want to concentrate on the "country house" angle out of your own interest, I think that you should also be aware that factories were starting to rear their ugly heads. For example, William Blake's poem Jerusalem, published in 1804, has a reference to the "dark satanic mills" which he sees destroying the country (this being Blake, this could be an allegory for all sorts of things but that's the literal meaning).

Good luck with the project!
