In response to Mr.Collins' clothes?, written by Katya S. on January 30, 1998 at 17:34:12
I think that then, as now, A cleric would have worn special clothing in the course of his duties, but the rest of the time he would wear normal clothes. When Henry is enjoying himself at Bath, he doesn't need to wear the C19th
equivalent of a dog collar.Young Mr Hayter and Mr Elton in the films wear clerical garments to dinner..perhaps because they are 'on duty' at the time? Mr Collins would never be off duty, would he? His job and Lady Cath are the only assests he's got!
