Mr.Collins' clothes?

In P&P2 Mr.Collins's clothes are different from those of other people. And I have just come across the line about the clothes of the clergymen in 'Mansfield Park': "Luckily there is no distinction of dress now-a-day to tell tales." And in 'Northanger Abbey' Mr.Tilney does not wear anything special. So is it a mistake? Perhaps the custom had changed but Mr.Collins was too old-fashioned to follow the trend? Was there any special kind of costume for the clergy at that time?
