I need your help again

I realized yesterday that though I know that Lizzy first met Darcy at the Meryton assemblies ball I have NO IDEA what an assemblies ball is! I mean: where was the ball given (actual place), who organized it, who was invited, was it a public ball???

Can anyone of you help me?
