Sprigged muslim?

I found an Illustrated Letters of Jane Austen yesterday and depleted my meagre savings to buy it. It was definitely worth it. I was thinking as I read how surprised JA would be to learn that 200 years later we would be so fascinated in these intimate family letters.

She mentions buying a sprigged muslim. What is this?

She also seems to change dresses many times a day. Just how many different types of dresses did a lady have to have beyond the usual evening dress?
