However, there was a 20,000 man Army in Ireland establishment (forget the exact name), separate from the regular army. The total army establishment eventually soared to 200,000, but ~60-80,000 would be more normal during the earlier part of the period. There was nothing to prevent the Irish from enlisting in the regulars, but given the existence of the separate army, that may be where your figure is coming from.
