Can anyone recommend any good reference books on Empire or Regency furnishings (either from the period or in the style of the period)??

I am working on developing new ways to "interpret" (that's museum-speak) the two Empire-style bedrooms and Regency-style dining room at the house museum where I work. (For example, we're developing a history and geography school tour and are working to tie the "Empire" style to France, Napoleon, influence of the Roman Empire, etc. )

The house was built in the 1920s - some of the furnishings are early 20th C. repros, some are period antiques -- we're still trying to figure out which is which. (One of my colleagues and I spent an hour or so this afternoon lying crawling under furniture with flashlights looking for clues.)

You can post here if you think it of interest to others or e-mail me directly by clicking on my name above. Thanks!

Favorite story:

I was taking a woman and her young son through on a tour and when I told them, "This was called the Empire room," the boy said (in a deep voice), "I am your father, Luke."
