] Perhaps...though I like to think that under that irony she was actually being very, very serious...she knew how it would be judged, whether she agreed with it or not. And I think it shows that she was very much a 'child of enlightenment', though not ,perhaps the way Patrick meant it!
As always, you are correct (case in point : Mansfield Park, which one critic called her punishment, and ours, for the light-bright-sparkling P&P). But, as reagrds my original post, I must admit that I was only thinking of P&P
