I betcha the 'closet' reference is in MP when Edmund and Fanny are trying to persuade Mary Crawford that it is a good idea to have family prayer meetings. The code phrase Austen used for spiritual contemplation is (I think) 'serious reflection' or 'thinking seriously', used in S&S by Marianne, in MP by Fanny to Edmund about Henry C., and a couple of other places I cannot cite off the top of my head.
These mentions of serious thinking are what I was referring to in the prior message.
