In response to For Mr.Henry Churchyard:I still love the image of the Countess Lieven !!!!!, written by Mary Collette on January 21, 1998 at 11:22:41

Dear Mary Collette,

Sorry to barge in but I thought I might share with you two great finds of my own if you are interested in this fascinating lady. There are two very good books about her and her life. Just in case you have not already heard of them.

1. Princess Lieven by Montgomery Hyde; Little, Brown & Company. This is basically a biography and a very good one with lots of Regency stuff. It was written in 1938, I have a first edition.

2. The Private Letters of Princess Lieven To Prince Metternich 1820-1826. Published by E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc. These are, obviously, her private letters. I understand that the letters from Prince Metterncih to her were destroyed. These letters are fascinating and Princess Lieven was a very outspoken lady... about everyone... This was published in 1938 as well. I have the first edition of this one too. I found both of these books in the library bookstore for $3.00 each.
