...so much so Michele, you put country music singers and their sequins to shame! ;-)

But is not Austen's comment more mocked depreciation than genuine criticism? I also agree with Caroline that underneath the satire lies a very critical and serious understanding, which Austen possesses towards her characters. I think this 'slant' or angle is a pre-condition to everything, even "sparklehood".;-) And I think this permeates throughout her work, in particular the later, more somber novels.
