In response to I am certain this is not a lady-like question, but..., written by Daničle B. on January 19, 1998 at 15:09:09

As hard as I tried to avoid this post I found myself wanting to know the answer to your question so much I did a search on the net...(my burning historical question has always been, when was TP invented?) I found 2 book sources (I can't believe I'm passing this along, no puns intended) and it just proves my theory that someone will write a book on anything, eventually.

The Porcelain God: A Social History of the Toilet, by Julie L. Horan
(Carol Publishing Group).

Temples of Convenience and Chambers of Delight, by Lucinda Lambton (St.
Martin's Press).
