I would imagine that the etiquette was to not mention it at all. Even today its not proper, we say we are going to the restroom or that we are going to powder our nose... Even exuseing yourself to the loo can be risque. One might mention that they are going upstairs to change their shawl or perhaps get some air. I should wonder how many ladies saw more than they wanted to see of some beaux peeing in the garden bushes? Chamber pots were all in the usual places so I doubt anyone would have trouble finding them.
