If this is the case, stating that it was a Welsh cow would be more feminine which is why Harriet would have a pretty little one. Welsh is a romantic name.

Saying that it is an Alderney cow sound a little more masculine and were be more proper for a man or someone who does not deserve a pretty little cow.

Jane might have considered this very thing when choosing the character of her cows... please don't laugh... I'm just kidding.
