The only thing that one can do when odd personages such as your friend painfully obtrude on your notice with such outrageous statements such as these is to flatly contradict them and refuse to canvas the subject any longer. You should have replied, "No, I fancy not. I have never heard her called anything but one of the greatest authors in the world."
Furthermore, should these personages insist on fruitless argument, continue to repeat your original statement until they tire and give up. I hope this helps, my dear.
