] Surprised to read in Thackeray's The Four Georges that George the IV at various times in his life,

Not only was he constantly in debt and trying to get money from Parliament, when his attempts there were unsuccessful he asked for money from his father, George III. The latter finally forced him to marry Princess Charlotte (from Germany and he'd never seen her) with the promise to pay off his debts. Neither his marriage nor his debt-free existence lasted for any length of time.
